Turkey Valley girls head coach Brian Schmitt has lots of reasons to be excited about this season on the oval.
He returns seven athletes who competed at the state meet a year ago, a record 14 returning letter winners and adds 10 new members to his team.
The fifth year head coach will be looking for his veteran group to make some noise in the Upper Iowa Conference this season.
The Trojans had just one senior last year, resulting in a fairly young and inexperienced squad. At the conference meet, the Trojans finished sixth overall. Olivia Reicks twice took second, in the 400-meter run and 800-meter. The 4x800 of Rebekah Shindelar, Josine Gossling, Allie Njus and O. Reicks also took second.
At the state qualifying meet, the Trojans took fourth overall and sent five events to the big stage. Three individual events and two relays moved on to the big stage.
Competing on the blue oval, the Trojans secured a point from the 4x400 relay. The combination of Johanna Blazek, McKenna Reicks, Njus and O. Reicks took eighth overall. Also competing were the 4x800 of Shindelar, Gossling, Njus and O. Reicks (10th), O. Reicks in the 400-meter dash (11th) and 800-meter run (10th) and Chloe Reicks in the discus (12th).
