The Decorah boys basketball team (11-6, 6-5 NEIC) picked up a pivotal win Friday night against the No. 8 team in Class 3A.

Saturday the Vikes fell on the road.

Extra-minute thriller

Friday night was a huge night for the Vikings, picking up a signature win by knocking off Class 3A No. 8 Crestwood (13-3, 7-2 NEIC) 60-54 in overtime.

"This was a total team victory against a very good Cresco squad. Our guys continued to battle the whole 32 minutes, and we had a few guys step up late and make some big shots," said Coach Jonathan Carlson.

It was back and forth throughout the first half, with both teams trying to use their speed to get away.

The Cadets pulled ahead by six points in the first quarter before Decorah battled back to tie the game at 11 after eight minutes. In the second the Vikes began to take momentum away, going on a run to close the quarter to go up 27-20. The Vikes scored with seconds remaining to make it 30-22; however, the Cadets came down and threw up a three that went in as the buzzer sounded, making it 30-25.
