Going on the road to face the top team in the Northeast Iowa Conference, the Decorah girls basketball team (7-13, 4-8 NEIC) fell to Class 4A No. 3 Waverly-Shell Rock (19-2, 11-1 NEIC) 54-32 Friday night in the final conference game of the year.
The Vikes finish the year sixth overall in the conference. The postseason starts Wednesday.
Decorah scored the first two points of the game. However, the Go-Hawks took the lead at 3-2 two minutes into the game and never trailed. Decorah fell behind 9-4 in the first before putting up six points to make it 13-10 Waverly at the break. In the second, the Go-Hawk defense put the pressure on Decorah, limiting the Vikes to eight points. However, Decorah kept the game close, trailing by just four midway through the period at 18-14. At the half, it was 28-18 Go-Hawks.
