The Decorah girls tennis team took on Osage and Waverly-Shell Rock to start the week.
Monday the Vikings traveled to Osage, winning 6-3.
The Vikes split the singles, with No. 4 Laura Munkel, No. 5 Kinsey Whitehill and No. 6 Emily Alcock all getting wins. In the doubles, it was a sweep.
"The first time we played Osage we lost two of three doubles matches and we were not happy campers when that cost us the match. We turned that around this time with true doubles play by the girls. They exploited weaknesses of each of their opponent teams and created openings in their opponent's defense with surgical precision," said Coach Larry Berland.
"I was especially happy with the No. 2 doubles team of Laura Munkel and Noreen Gentry as this was their first time playing together. Noreen joins the senior freshmen club as this is her first year out for tennis, and she, like the other senior freshmen girls, has a big up side. Laura and Noreen played like a fine-tuned machine with all parts of their game in a synchronized pattern. They just put so much pressure on their opponents they started fighting with themselves and their day was over," said Berland.
