The Decorah wrestling team has earned a chance to compete in the Class 2A regional team dual tournament while Turkey Valley will compete in the Class 1A regional dual tournament.
The Vikes finished first at the sectional meet Saturday at Waukon with 216 points. Crestwood was second with 212 points.
The top two teams advance to the regional dual meet, which is Tuesday, Feb. 5, at West Delaware. Decorah, ranked No. 9 in Class 2A, will face Crestwood in the first round of action. The winner will face the winner of Denver-Tripoli and No. 1 West Delaware for the right to go to the dual state meet, held Wednesday, Feb. 13, in Des Moines. The first two matches will start at 6 p.m.
In addition, Kellan O'Shea (132), Cody Ritner (145), Nathan Suhr (160), Peter Kephart (170), Tyler Hovey (182), Andy Hovden (220) and Austin Ashbacher (285) all move on to the district meet, Saturday, Feb. 9, at West Delaware. The top two wrestlers in each weight bracket from districts move on to state.
In addition, Turkey Valley also advanced to the regional dual team meet by finishing second at its sectional meet, behind Sumner-Fred. The Trojans will face No. 15 Maquoketa Valley Tuesday, Feb. 5, at 6 p.m. at Sumner-Fred. The winner moves on to face the winner of East Buchanan and No. 5 Sumner-Fred.
The Trojans had eight wrestlers move on to the district round Saturday, Feb. 9, at Aplington-Parkersburg. Still alive are Austin Vrzak (106), Tom Reicks (113), John Hageman (132), Riley Meirick (138), Tyler Sawyer (160), Levi Klimesh (170), Dillon Kuennen (182) and Luke Kuennen (220).
South Winn has two wrestlers still vying for a spot at state. Colton Hageman (170) and Chris Brincks (195) will wrestle at districts Saturday, Feb. 9, at Aplington-Parkersburg.
