An early deficit did nothing to shake the nerves of the Decorah boys basketball team Monday night in the Class 3A semifinal basketball tournament.

In fact, it may have been a major motivator for the Vikes as Decorah went on a roll, sending Waukon fans home hurting following a 50-40 Viking win.
Waukon ends the year 9-11. Decorah improves to 14-8 overall. Next up on the radar: Crestwood.
Decorah scored the opening points of the game, sending Viking fans to their feet right away. However, the Indians took that momentum, scoring the next five points to make it 5-2 just three minutes into it. Rather than shrink back, the Vikings came back firing, putting up shot after shot and crashing the boards for nearly every rebound.
Josh Miller came off the bench, providing a spark and some fast points. By the time the dust settled and Waukon knew what had happened, Decorah held a 16-7 lead after the first eight minutes.
Having a break between quarters did nothing to cool the Decorah offense. The Vikes continued to take defensive rebounds and steals down the court and convert it into scoring opportunities. Halfway through the second quarter, the Vikes had built a 15-point lead at 25-10. Waukon was never able to make it closer than 13, where it remained at the half at 29-16.
