Looking to pull off a big win, the Decorah boys tennis team traveled to Minnesota to take on Winona Cotter, one of the better teams in the area.
In the end, Cotter got the best of the Vikes, winning 5-2.
Because the compeititon was held in Minnesota, those rules were used. Instead of six singles and three doubles, with players able to play in both, in Minnesota rules there are four singles and three doubles, with no player allowed to play in both.
"Going into this match we had to decide whether we were going to go all out to win the meet or mainly prepare for district competition. We went for the later, hoping to win," said Coach Reg Laursen. "Winona Cotter put their main fire power in singles, and we had a good share of our power in doubles."
The two wins came in the doubles game. At No. 1, Lucas Hunter and Gable Lonning defeated Miguel Jaurequi and Sung Woo Jang 6-2, 6-2. C.J. Cliff and T.J. Misseldine defeated Brennan Schaffner and Tim DeMarais 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 2 spot.
