In a match between two teams that will likely battle it out for the top spot in the Upper Iowa Conference, the South Winn girls basketball team (0-2, 0-1 UIC) fell at Sumner-Fredericksburg 42-35 Tuesday night.
"It was another battle between two evenly matched teams," said Coach Mike Johnson. "We did things much better than we did last Friday. The kids played hard. We just had a few breakdowns that hurt our chances."
Micole Lansing led the way with 10 points. Jen Panos added seven points and eight rebounds. Payton Poshusta put in six while Jessica Lensing and Brittany Shindelar each had four. Shindelar also had five rebounds. Megan Elsbernd chipped in five. Lansing and Lensing had two assists each.
The Warriors are back in conference action Tuesday, Nov. 27, when they go to Turkey Valley for a JV/varsity double header, with the varsity tipping around 7:30 p.m.
