It was over after the first eight minutes for the South Winn girls basketball team (5-3, 5-1 UIC) Friday night as the Warriors defeated West Central (0-6, 0-5 UIC) 63-17.
The Warriors put the game away before fans even had a chance to get a popcorn. They scored 26 points in the first quarter and held West Central to just six to make it 26-6. In the second, the Warrior defense stepped up its game, holding West Central without a single point. Meanwhile, the offense extended the lead to 35-6 at the half.
The Warriors added 28 points in the second half while allowing just 11 points total.
The Warriors were led in points by Brittany Shindelar. The sophomore had 13 points. Jenn Panos put up 10 points. Abby Phillips and Payton Poshusta both had eight. Becca Franzen chipped in six.
The Warriors host Central today, Tuesday, Dec. 18, at 6:15 p.m. The final game of the 2012 portion of the season is against Valley Friday, Dec. 21, at 6:15 p.m. in Calmar.
