Winding down the season, the South Winn girls basketball team (12-6, 11-2 UIC) won its conference contest but lost on the road against a Northeast Iowa Conference team.
Traveling to Guttenberg, the Warriors took on Clayton Ridge (14-5, 12-3 UIC) Friday night. The Eagles were in second place in the conference at the time of the game. Thanks to a solid fourth quarter and good defensive effort, the Warriors won 44-38.
In the first, the Warriors scored 15 points while limiting the Eagles nine to go ahead 15-9. It was slow goings for both teams in the second, scoring a combined 10 points. It was 19-15 at the half.
Shots were falling in the third as the teams scored 33 total points. However, the Eagles outscored South Winn 18-15 to make it 34-33 with eight minutes to go. In the final frame, the Warriors scored 10 while holding the Eagles to just eight.
SW was led by Brittany Shindelar, who had 14 points. Jenn Panos had seven while Megan Elsbernd and Kennidee DeVilbiss both had six.
