It was a big night for the South Winn boys basketball team as the Warriors (1-1, 1-0 UIC) survived a double-overtime thriller in Postville, defeating the Pirates (0-3, 0-2 UIC) 79-78.
The Warriors came out strong Tuesday night, putting up 18 points in the first eight minutes to take an 18-12 lead after eight minutes. However, that lead was erased in the second quarter as Postville went on a run to take a 31-29 lead at the half.
In the third, the Warrior offense was back on the attack, scoring 15 points to take the lead back at 44-42. However, in the fourth, the Pirates came back to tie the game and send it into extra time at 65-65.
In the first overtime, both teams scored six points to force a second four-minute frame. The Warriors were finally able to pull away, outscoring Postville 8-7 to get the win.
