It was an oh so sweet Monday night for Decorah track fans as the boys and girls teams brought home double the honors at the Northeast Iowa Conference meet.

The girls team seized the title for the ninth year in a row, putting up 197 points. Second place went to Waverly-Shell Rock, 100 points behind Decorah at 97.

For the second year in a row, the boys team also hoisted the trophy high, securing first place with 163 points. Waverly-Shell Rock again finished in the runner-up spot, this time with 150 points.

Close call

For the boys, it was a close meet from the beginning with the Go-Hawks. However, securing first in the final event of the night, the 4x400, was the icing on the celebratory cake.

In all, the Vikes had eight first place events.

The 4x800 relay started the meet on the right foot. Thanks to a strong third leg by Alex Bishop, then a killer finish by Kyle Hosting, the Vikings came from behind to win the event in 8:13.69. Gavin Nimrod ran the first leg while Hans Holkesvik took the second. Patrick Larson kept the streak alive. In the 3,200-meter run, he broke the 10-minute mark, finishing first in 9:49.54, his first NEIC title in the event.
