The Trojans are coming off a year in which they finished second at the conference meet and scored 13 points at the state meet.
Looking to send the Trojans back to the big stage is Head Coach Mark Scott, who is in his 15th season with the Trojans.
Last year's squad included just four seniors and a host of young athletes looking to make an impact. At the Upper Iowa Conference meet, the Trojans took second place with 109 points, trailing just South Winn. The Trojans took home four gold medals (Jordan Schmitt in the 400-meter run and high jump, Ryan Izer in the 3200-meter run and the 4x800 of John Schmitt, Triston Mohlis, Steven Landa and Nathan Suell).
A week later at the state qualifying meet, the Trojans won the event with 135 points, ahead of second-place Starmont with 100 points. In total, the Trojans had eight events and nine athletes heading to state.
In front of the Drake Stadium crowd, the Trojans finished 19th overall with 13 points. Teammates Brian Schmitt, Jor. Schmitt, Joh. Schmitt and Suell brought the Trojan fans to their feet by taking second in the 4x400. In addition, B. Schmitt secured two points by taking seventh in the long jump. Jor. Schmitt came up big in the 200-meter dash by taking seventh. He was eighth in the 400-meter dash. Also at state were Izer (15th in the 3200-meter run), the 4x800 (Joh. Schmitt, Mohlis, Landa, Suell, 16th), Jor. Schmitt (10th in the high jump) and Joh. Schmitt (20th in the 800-meter).
