January 5 Decorah Journal

The Decorah girls basketball team sailed past the Turkey Valley Trojans 54-27 at home. The Vikings burst out to a 29-3 lead midway through the second quarter. Viking Abby Arend led both teams with 20 points while Anna Madrigal added 18.
Six Viking swimmers dropped time as the Vikes defeated Waterloo East 152-48 and Vinton-Shellsburg 140-67. Nelson Wiese, Nolan Heffern, Evan Webb, Matt Schissel, Kody Miller and Gable Lonning all saw improvements on their season-bests.
Playing in the middle school gym, the Decorah boys basketball team easily handled Upper Iowa Conference foe Postville 65-45. The Vikes scored 21 points in the second quarter to put the game away. Jacob Drost led the team with 11 points.
January 10 Public Opinion
Five Decorah wrestlers were crowned champions as the Vikes took the Chris Flanagan Invite title at Crestwood. Zach Henning (132), Hans Holkesvik (145), Landon Ashbacher (160), Andy Hovden (220) and Austin Ashbacher (285) all took home brackets.
It was a good weekend of sports for Luther College. The women's basketball team defeated Buena Vista 64-57 while the men won 73-61 over the Beavers. The wrestling team went 4-0 at the Knox Duals.
The Turkey Valley wrestling team picked up two more UIC wins, this time over North Fayette 39-27 and Postville 72-6. Tom Reicks, Austin Vrzak, John Hageman, Charles Hadacek, Ben Wilkerson, Kyle Reicks and Luke Kuennen all went undefeated.
January 12 Decorah Journal
The threes were falling for the South Winn boys basketball team as the Warriors defeated Turkey Valley in Jackson Junction 57-47. South Winn used threes by Jordan Rommes and Jared Holien to take a 40-32 lead in the third. Holien led the Warriors with 20 points while Jordan Schmitt scored 19 for the Trojans.
The South Winn girls basketball team doubled up on Turkey Valley 51-25 in Jackson Junction. The Warriors led 21-10 at the half. For South Winn, Sam Shindelar and Jess Lensing both had 11 points while Macey Winter, Tess Kuennen and Allie Njus all had five for TV.
