This February, ArtHaus in Decorah adds full service ceramic and clay facilities at their 107 W. Broadway location.

Following the closing of The Clay Studio of Decorah, owner Rachelle Branum and ArtHaus Executive Director Shannon Dallenbach Durbin have brought the two businesses full circle.

About Clay Studio
The Clay Studio began in partnership with ArtHaus in 2009, and now ArtHaus will run a full clay studio to complete its studio offerings. Branum will continue to collaborate with ArtHaus to offer after school and summer workshops in clay.

“ArtHaus did not buy The Clay Studio business,” says Dallenbach Durbin, “so not everything is exactly the same for patrons of that shop; but we are incorporating clay and ceramic elements back into our already existing art program and we are delighted to have Rachelle’s help in guiding us and provide us with the equipment needed to make our program more robust.”

“I originally started The Clay Studio when the clay program at ArtHaus grew too large for the former Water Street space,” says Branum. “I’m excited to see it back at ArtHaus in the larger location and I am happy to still be part of the program, teaching Mud Club after school.”

Expanding hours
To feature these new offerings in their 107 W. Broadway, Decorah location, ArtHaus is expanding Open Studio hours.

The studio offers mixed media studio including painting, drawing, print, fibers, a full clay studio with wheel throwing and handbuilding offerings, and Ceramic Cafe for glaze painting bisque figurines. Monday - Sunday, 1-5 p.m. and Sunday to Thursday evenings, 6-9 p.m. These hours will be in part operated by Open Studio assistant volunteers to assist visitors in creating their projects.

With the additional equipment and facilities updates, ArtHaus also welcomes Sarah Frydenlund as a part time studio manager to coordinate studio practices and volunteers, develop programming, and facilitate the local artist Makers Market, launched in December 2019.

“We are excited to have Sarah join us here at ArtHaus,” says Dallenbach Durbin. “She brings a passion and a drive for making creative art experiences available to the community.”

Spring Open Haus
ArtHaus will host a Spring Open Haus Saturday, March 14, from 1 to 4 p.m., to showcase the updates to the studio and launch the summer calendar.
