The Western Home String Band will host a mid-winter contra dance Saturday, Jan. 20.

Dancing begins at 7:30 at The Lingonberry, 218 W. Water Street in Decorah.

"Dancing at the Lingonberry is lots of fun," and organizer said. "The space is ideal for long contra dance sets, the acoustics allow the band to shine and the wood floors are perfect for dancing."

Bill Deutsch calls dances regularly in the area, and enjoys teaching simple to intermediate level dances. Walking and swing moves for each dance are taught, and beginners of all ages are welcome.

The Western Home String Band features experienced players and those who are learning the style. Participants will dance to fiddle, mandolin, guitar, bass, banjo, Irish drum and other acoustic instruments playing reels, jigs and a few waltzes.

Admission is $7, with kids 12 and under free. Attendees are asked to wear comfortable shoes and layered clothing. No partner is necessary.
