Michael McElrath is the featured artist for Lawn Chair Night Thursday, Aug. 8.
All performances take place in front of the Winneshiek County Courthouse on Main Street.

In the event of bad weather, musicians may choose to perform in the covered parking lot under the Decorah Public Library.

Changes will be announced with local media.

Michael McElrath is an “original original.” Some describe his voice as “Willy Nelson meets Bob Dylan.” He accompanies himself on guitars and piano, but mostly on his trusty Martin D 35, which he’s owned since 1971.

McElrath originally hails from Wausau, Wis. He attended Luther College in Decorah for a couple of years, and then set off to find his fame and fortune in the music business. He has been in more bands than he can remember, and enjoyed every one of them, but blossomed as a solo performer and songwriter, ultimately concentrating on recording, a decision prompted by a lifetime’s backlog of songs, and run-ins with cancer in 2007 and 2010.

Unable to find a day job as a 60-plus year-old cancer patient, he opted for early retirement and has been writing and recording ever since.
