New Minowa Players is pleased to announce tickets are officially on sale for their upcoming show, “Next to Normal.”

The show will be performed at the NMP Theatre at 906 S. Mill Street in Decorah April 5-8.

“Next to Normal” is an award-winning rock musical with book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey and music by Tom Kitt.

Its story revolves around a mother’s struggle with bipolar disorder and the effects of that process on her family. The musical also explores themes of grief, drug abuse, suicide, ethics and suburban life.

New Minowa Players’ version of “Next to Normal” is being directed by Aaron Kvale with musical direction by Sheryl Scheffert. Karen Esterl plays Diana Goodman, a suburban mother struggling with mental illness, her marriage, and the desire to be healthy and happy. Her husband, Dan, is played by Gabe Twedt. Kyna Henson plays their daughter, Natalie.

Both Natalie and Dan struggle to find ways to cope with supporting Diana. The entire family must also face the challenge of dealing with the loss of Gabe (played by James Odegaard), their son and brother. David Mendez plays Henry, an earnest but often-stoned student who is Natalie’s new boyfriend. Rick Sheffert is Dr Madden/Dr Fine, Diana’s primary psychologist.

“Next to Normal” will be performed April 5-7 at 7 p.m., and April 7-8 and at 2 p.m. Tickets purchased online with be held at the door. All tickets are general admission.

Be advised that “Next to Normal” presents the use of strong language and themes of suicide, self harm, the death of a child and drug abuse. No children under the age of 13 will be admitted.
