Renovations complete
Luther College’s Legacy Field is open for business as the Norse football team practiced this week after the installation was completed, providing the Norse with one of the safest and most unique football fields among NCAA Division III institutions. The dedication of Legacy Field is scheduled for noon on Saturday, Sept. 9, followed by a Community Day Picnic. The Norse will open the 2017 home season at 2 p.m. versus St. Olaf College.   • Third place is highest finish ever for Norse softball
    It was a long, hard road for the Luther College softball team to reach the NCAA III National Softball championships. However, last weekend the Norse earned its best finish ever on the big stage, falling one game shy of the championship game in Oklahoma City, Okla., to finish third.

  • National Softball Tournament begins versus MIT
    The NCAA Division III National Softball Championship bracket has been released and Luther College (40-9) will begin the eight-team double elimination tournament against Massachusetts Institute of Technology (38-9-1) Thursday, May 24, at 1:30 p.m.

  • Luther softball advances to Super Regionals
    The Luther College softball team has advanced to the Super Regional round of the NCAA III National Softball Tournament, thanks to a 3-0 victory over Saint Benedict Sunday afternoon in Decorah.

  • Kephart sets new record
    Northeast Iowa was well represented at the Drake Relays, held in Des Moines Thursday through Saturday, April 26-28. Multiple events competed on the blue oval for the Decorah girls’ and boys’ track teams, in addition to South Winn’s Ellie Loesch and numerous participants from Luther College.

  • In the third match-up between the top two teams in the Iowa Conference, nationally ranked No. 2 Wartburg women’s basketball team defeated Luther 86-74 in the championship game of the Iowa Conference Tournament at Levick Arena Saturday. The victory secured the league’s automatic bid to the 2018 NCAA III National Tournament for the Knights.

  • In the Iowa Conference Softball Preseason Coaches’ Poll released recently, the Luther College softball team has been picked to repeat as Iowa Conference champions. The Norse received 64 points in the league’s preseason coaches’ poll.

    Caleb Padilla, Luther College head football coach, recently announced the hiring of Dorian Keller as offensive line coach, co-offensive coordinator and camp coordinator.

  • Fifty outstanding softball players have been chosen for the 2018 Schutt Sports/NFCA Division III National Player of the Year watch list. Among those are three Luther softball players. This trio includes senior shortstop Anna Strien (Cedar Falls, Waterloo Columbus), senior outfielder Ashley Burrows (Bondurant, Bondurant-Farrar) and junior pitcher Samantha Bratland (Spring Grove, Minn.). All three are returning All-Americans. The list will be paired down throughout the season until just one player remains at the conclusion of the 2018 season.

    The National Fastpitch Coaches Association has announced that Luther College head softball coach Renae Hartl has been elected to the 2018 Board of Directors as the NCAA Division III Representative and will serve a three-year term.

    This week Luther College Director of Athletics Renae Hartl announced that Aaron Hafner, head football coach, has resigned and that Caleb Padilla, who has been the defensive coordinator for the Norse football program the past three years, has been promoted to head football coach.

  • Luther College Professor Brad Chamberlain named interim dean
    Luther College President Paula Carlson announced Monday, Dec. 11, that Brad Chamberlain, Luther professor of chemistry and co-chair of the strategic planning process, will serve as interim dean for institutional planning and mission. He began transitioning into his new duties on Dec. 1.
