The Northeast Iowa Peace & Justice Center (PJC) will host a Restorative Conversations class, led by Rising Sun Life Coach, Mary Jorgensen, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Mondays, Nov. 16, 23; and Dec. 7, and 14 at the PJC's office at 119 Winnebago St., Decorah.

The class will help people learn strategies for preventing and resolving conflicts.

“Most people have been in situations where there’s potential for conflict,” Jorgensen writes. “Often these problematic confrontations can result in great harm to families, workplaces, and community organizations. This four-week class aims to support the process of engaging in difficult conversations in order to restore harmony and build effective relationships. This will not entail personal counseling for attendees; it is not a support group. Participants can expect to learn skills and practice applying them.

Four models
The class will highlight the four premier models for resolving conflicts: mediation, crucial conversations, contrasting personalities and conflict prevention.

Each class can be attended separately, though it is preferable to attend all four. CEUs for social workers will be provided, pending approval.

The class is being offered by the PJC free of charge, although a $10 donation per session is suggested. For information or to reserve a space, call the PJC at 563-382-5337 or Rising Sun Life Coaching at 563-382-4558.
