Winneshiek Medical Center announces the hiring of Mayo Clinic Health System clinical psychologist Bridgette Hensley, Psy.D., to the Clinic at Winneshiek Medical Center.

Hensley has expertise in treating children, adolescents and adults with disorders such as trauma, depression, anxiety and behavioral disturbances (ADHD). She also provides suicide assessment and prevention, family therapy and couples therapy.

Hensley earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Master of Science in Education from Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois. She earned her Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology from Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Chicago. She has extensive background in clinical and educational settings, and has served as adjunct faculty for four Wisconsin universities.

"Having spent the past few years leading a university counseling center, I look forward to refocusing my attention to direct patient care in a clinical setting," says Hensley.

At Winneshiek Medical Center, Hensley joins a team of Mayo Clinic Health System family medicine and specialty doctors and surgeons providing full time primary and surgical care for the entire family. Specifically, she works collaboratively with Mayo Clinic Health System psychologist Ronald Hougen, Ph.D., to provide comprehensive care for mental health concerns and conditions.

"Daily, I am amazed at people's resilience and their ability to heal themselves," said Hensley.

"Every person has answers inside, and I feel fortunate that people share their stories with me and allow me to guide them to find those answers."

At WMC, Hensley will also work to promote mental health awareness in the community.

She says, "I hope to increase awareness of mental health issues and reduce the negative image or stigma that may exist. Many mental health conditions are treatable or manageable, just like a broken arm or diabetes. Through appropriate treatments, people can live happy and productive lives."
