The board of directors of the Oneota Film Festival has announced cancellation of the 2021 event.

The next in-person festival is March 3-7, 2022.

In statement released Monday, Oct. 12, the board stated “at this time, it appears that we cannot confidently provide a safe, relaxing experience for film-lovers; many who have supported us during the past 12 years. We are hopeful that in the next year,we will see vaccines and protocols that will make it possible to sit in a dark room with dozens of other film-lovers, viewingfilms about subjects that matter in our lives, made by independent filmmakers. We will look forward to discussions of thosefilms with other members of the audience and the filmmakers.”

Board members noted the mid-October decision regarding next spring's festival is due to the viewing and planning timeline maintained for the annual event.
