The Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce (DACC) has announced the cancellation of the annual Lighted Holiday Parade and Santa photos. The events were scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 3.

“We had hoped that we were planning safe events that could be steady traditions amongst all the changes in 2020,” said DACC Executive Director Kristina Wiltgen. “However, in light of the recent guidelines from the state, we have canceled the Lighted Holiday Parade and Santa photos.”

The Holiday Lights fireworks show remains scheduled for Thursday, December 3 at 6:30 p.m. Families may find a place to park and enjoy the fireworks display. The fireworks will be set off north of the Decorah High School baseball field, similar to the annual Nordic Fest fireworks.

New Events

“New, updated events are being planned to bring some holiday cheer to the community, especially our youth,” adds Wiltgen.

Throughout the month of December, the DACC will share videos of local heroes reading holiday themed stories. Videos will be available at and via the DACC Facebook page, @DecorahChamber. Featured readers will include doctors, nurses, law enforcement and even Santa.

Saturday, Dec. 12 at 1 p.m. the Decorah Fire Department will drive Santa through Decorah neighborhoods. Children will have the opportunity to come outside and watch Santa go by in a fire truck.  More details on route and timing will be available soon.

“We appreciate all the community outreach and support. We hope to fully celebrate with new and old traditions in 2021,” says Wiltgen.
