The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office recently hired Deputy Makenz (Mak) Kriener.

Kriener grew up outside of Calmar, and graduated from South Winneshiek High School in 2009. In 2016, he was hired as a full-time jailer by the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office. He attended Upper Iowa University and Northeast Iowa Community College where he graduated with a degree in psychology and criminal justice. He also graduated in the 278th class of the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy at Camp Dodge Military Base in Johnston, Iowa.

Since July of 2018, Deputy Kriener has served the community of Cresco as a police officer specializing in narcotics enforcement as well as serving as a part-time Deputy Sheriff for the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office. In his free time he enjoys attending dirt track stock car races, hunting, and spending time with his wife and beagle puppy named “Sarge.” He and his wife Hanna are currently expecting their first child and are moving to a home in Spillville.
