Descendants of Baard and Kari Berge are invited to join together for their second family reunion in Decorah. The party will commence at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 19, at the Dug Road Inn. A Norwegian luncheon will be served on the grounds at 1 p.m.

Baard and Kari Berge were born in Norway in 1845, and came to the United States in 1870 on the ship Mercator, settling in Glenwood Township in 1871 not far from the Glenwood Lutheran Church. They had eight children between 1875 and 1890, including Caroline Berge Nerison, Emma Berge Kirkeby, Carl Berg, Albert Berg, Ida Berge Rocksvold, Nellie Berge Geving, Amanda Berge Lennon, and Henry Berge. (Some of the sons dropped the “e” from Berge.)

Three years ago five generations gathered, including Baard and Kari’s only living grandchildren, Iona (Rocksvold) Crawford and Caryl (Berge) Larson. This year the family will travel to Decorah from across the United States, including Washington, North Carolina, Florida, Hawaii, Wisconsin and Minnesota.
