The Decorah Community School District Foundation has announced the recipients of the 2014 ExCel Grant.

This grant provides stipends for summer academic, technical, and arts-related opportunities that go beyond the district’s regular academic and cultural programs. Students currently in grades 6 through 11, who are enrolled in the Decorah schools, St. Benedict’s or the home-school assistance program, are eligible.

Thanks to a generous donation from the Marion E. Jerome Foundation, nine applicants will receive funding this year.

The recipients and their programs of study are Jada Bushman, Iowa School for the Deaf Movie Magic and Sports Camps; Ben Klammer, Concordia Language Camp - Waldsee’s German Apprentice Program; Dalton Brown, UNI Jazz Combo Camp; Layne Guerrero, Iowa School for the Deaf Movie Magic and Sports Camps; Michael Foster, Naval Academy Summer Seminar; Annika Vande Krol, Summer Journalism Workshop - University of Iowa; Emma Fretheim, Concordia Language Villages - Japanese Camp; Charles Baldwin Interlochen Center for the Arts; and Connor Freeman, Middlebury-Monterey Language Academy.

Applications for 2015 ExCel grant funds will be due April 30, 2015.
