The Decorah Historic Preservation Commission has written an architectural treasure hunt brochure that will be available in May as part of Preservation Month activities. It is designed to be used by visitors and residents as they walk downtown along Water Street.
The brochure pictures 15 architectural features of downtown buildings for hunters to find and match to brief descriptions. Copies of the brochure are free and are available in the Decorah Area Chamber office, 508 W. Water St., and in the lobby-area brochure rack at Hotel Winneshiek, 104 E. Water St.
The National Trust for Historic Preservation established May as Preservation Month in 1973. Members of the Decorah Historic Preservation Commission, founded in 2008, have responsibility for all aspects of Decorah historic preservation.
