The Iowa Cattlemen’s Foundation Youth Beef Team is an organization open to all youth, ages 12 to 18, who are interested in promoting the beef industry.
This organization began in 1994. The goal of this group is to equip young cattlemen and women with information they need to speak out positively for the beef industry, pointing out the advantages beef offers to health, the environment and the economy.
Being a member of this team allows youth to become involved in statewide workshops, lead educational activities and obtain college scholarships.
The Youth Beef Team of Winneshiek County, led by Micayla Christopher, is a diverse group comprised of members from all over Winneshiek County who share a love for beef.
During May Beef Month, members are visiting local schools educating students on the beef industry. Members are also handing out small prizes to students who are able to answer beef-related questions. More events are planned throughout summer. The Youth Beef Team of Winneshiek County will be at the Winneshiek County Fair in July assisting with beef shows and working at the cattlemen’s restaurant.

Saturday
The organization’s first clinic is Saturday, May 11, at the Winneshiek County Fairgrounds show barn from 9 a.m. to noon.
This event will educate participants on the importance of show preparation. Basic grooming, showmanship and hair care tips will be demonstrated. This is a hands-on clinic where participants will be able to ask questions of experienced showman and learn first-hand what it takes to win in the ring. Participants must have pre-registered to be eligible for the clinic.
Team members look forward to educating the public about beef and its many benefits. Organizations, school or community groups interested in having the members of the Team give a presentation should contact the Beef Team through Facebook by reaching out to Micayla Christopher or any Youth Beef Team member.
The Beef Team reminds the public to “enjoy May Beef Month and remember to eat beef.”
