The Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce (DACC) has joined Small Business Saturday by becoming a neighborhood partner for the campaign sponsored by American Express and its partners.

Small Business Saturday takes place Saturday, Nov. 30.

Small Business Saturday began in 2010 in response to the sluggish economy and growing impact of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The program was created to celebrate small businesses and their impact to our neighborhoods and our local economies. In 2011, it was recognized by the U.S. Senate and has since grown as a national campaign around supporting small businesses the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

"The DACC is proud to be a partner in this campaign. Our community is built on small businesses and the economic impact of these businesses is why we have continued to remain vital and growing," said Nikki Brevig DACC executive director.

"They employ our workers, support our schools, pay commercial property taxes, sales tax, and are our most generous charitable donors. We work hard to celebrate their impact not just on Small Business Saturday, but every day."

Several area businesses are getting involved in the celebration. Participating merchants of the DACC's Countdown to Christmas Holiday Giveaway are giving away two-for-one entries for every $25 a customer spends in their business on that day. Albert's Restaurant is offering 10 percent off of breakfast or lunch with a receipt from a local business on that day. More information can be found

"We recognize as a consumer we all have options, but when you make the decision to do business locally, you make a commitment to our community and its future. That is money well spent," Brevig noted.
