The Winneshiek County Board of Supervisors has set the public hearing for the fiscal year 2015 budget for noon Monday, March 10.

The budget summary will be published as required in the official county newspapers. Citizens interested in additional information can contact the County Auditor Ben Steines at

The budget as proposed includes a total tax rate of $8.50 per $1,000 of taxable value for rural residents, which is the same as last year, and a rate of $6.41 per $1,000 for residents of incorporated areas, which is 14 cents less than last year.

The proposed budget includes a 2.5 percent increase in wage rates for union employees and a 3 percent increase for non-union, non-elected employees. Elected officials compensation will be voted on after the public hearing. Any of these proposed budget figures can be lowered by the Board of Supervisors after the public hearing, but cannot be raised, Steines said.
