The 7 O'Clock Jazz Band, Decorah High School's premiere ensemble, recently traveled to Charles City to participate in the Iowa High School Music Association's State Jazz Festival. The band received straight Division 1's from all of the judges, with scores of 46, 49, and 49 out of a possible 50.

"I was very proud of the way the band performed. They played really well and earned every bit of the positive comments and high scores," remarked ensemble director Matt Cody. “They rehearse twice per week outside the regular school day, and those efforts have really paid off.”

The 7 O'Clock Jazz Band is comprised of the following musicians: saxophone players Gabriel Andersen, Daniel Skrade, Brenna Parker, Anna Tallier, and Katie Storlie; trombone players Eli Vorvick, Kaya Hougen, Max Wilson, and Casey Brickley; trumpet players Landon Miller, Blake Henriquez, Tyler Irwin, Abby Hanson, and Dylan Muhlbauer; and the rhythm section: AJ Morrow on drums, Pete Wilson on piano, Britta Swanson on guitar, and Sally Laybourn on bass.

The public can experience the middle and high school jazz bands at the annual Jazz Coffee House performance at 7 p.m. Friday, March 6, in the DHS cafeteria.
