The Decorah Fire Department responded to a caller reporting a large amount of smoke coming from The Salon, 217 E. Water St., at about 9:10 a.m. Friday.
When firefighters arrived, smoke was coming from the front door of the business. The upstairs apartments were checked for occupants. Firefighters entered the building and found smoke was coming from the furnace located in the basement. It was determined there was no active fire. The smoke was ventilated from the building and the occupants were able to return. Eighteen firefighters responded to the call.
Firefighters and law enforcement officers were on the scene until about 9:45 a.m.
The Decorah Fire Department was assisted by the Decorah Police Department and Dispatch Center, Winneshiek Medical Center Ambulance, Winneshiek County Emergency Management, Alliant Energy and Black Hills Energy.
