The second annual Peace Be the Journey bike ride for mental health awareness is Saturday Oct. 5, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The course for the ride is the 11-mile closed loop Trout Run Trail beginning at the Decorah Fish Hatchery, 2325 Siewers Spring Rd., Decorah. The trail winds through the countryside on the outskirts of Decorah and ends back at the Hatchery.
Welcoming comments by Sheriff Dan Marx begin at 10 a.m. with bicycling to follow. There will be a free bounce house and face painting at the Hatchery, in addition to Kymar Kafe and Peake Orchard offering caramel apple sundaes. Door prizes will be given away.
Early bird registrants will receive a T-shirt they may pick up at the bike ride. Registration fees increase by $5 each after early registration closes Sunday, Sept. 15.
Registration on the day of the event will be available.
The purpose of the ride is to raise awareness, reduce stigma and raise funds for education, support and advocacy for those living with mental health conditions and their family, friends, neighbors and communities.
All funds raised by the event will go toward programming throughout the five service counties of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Northeast Iowa. To register, visit namineiowa.org and click on “major events” under the “news/events” tab.
