A Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Department of Natural Resources (DNR) floodplain mapping meeting is Monday, March 11, at Decorah City Hall.
The meeting is from 5-7 p.m. and is open to anyone from the public who would like to learn more about the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) programs.
The purpose of the meeting is to:
• Provide background on the NFIP
• Give an overview of the floodplain mapping project for Winneshiek County and the available products
• Give a projected timeline for the rest of the project
• Discuss the comment and appeals process
• Explain the map adoption process
• Discuss flood insurance and the potential effects of the map changes for properties in different flood zones.
