This weekend kicks off the holiday season in Decorah with the Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce (DACC) Holiday Open House Weekend- Decorah All Decked Out and Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum's Deck the Tables.

The DACC starts the weekend Thursday, Nov. 21.

The DACC will light luminaries along Short St. and stores will kick off their holiday season with in-store events and specials. The community will be decorated and carolers and kettle corn will be out on the street on Saturday.

Holiday giveaway

The weekend also kicks off the Countdown to Christmas holiday giveaway.

Shoppers who spend $25 or more in participating merchant business through Christmas Day can enter for a chance to win one of five baskets filled with items from merchants. Each basket is valued at over $500 and includes $100 in Chamber Dollar from Fidelity Bank. Countdown begins Thursday with the first drawing Friday, Nov. 29 at 10 a.m.

The weekend is in partnership with Vesterheim's Deck the Tables event featuring open houses Friday 5-9 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. at the Hotel Winneshiek.

The Deck the Tables event includes 29 decorated tables, a holiday home décor showcase, door prizes, Jingle Jazz and horse-drawn carriage rides (weather permitting).

The Winneshiek County Convention and Visitors Bureau is also coordinating a holiday tour of Decorah's finest specialty lodging Saturday 11 a.m. -2 p.m. Hop on board the Decorah Trolley at the Hotel Winneshiek and see some of the area's lodging facilities "decked out for the holidays."

"This weekend is filled with great events and activities," Nikki Brevig, DACC executive director said.

"We appreciate the partnerships we have formed with Vesterheim and the WCCVB to support such a wonderful weekend in Decorah."
