The Decorah Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved a site plan for a new Kwik Star off Montgomery Street at its meeting Monday night.
Plans call for a 7,298 square foot main structure with a 3,800 square-foot fueling canopy with construction starting in 2020.
The 1.25-acre site is where the Nordic Express convenience store is now located. Nordic Express has been closed since December when a fire caused significant damage to the structure. It will be torn down to make way for a new Kwik Star.
Kwik Star will continue to operate its convenience store on Short Street once a new store is built off Montgomery Street.
The Decorah City Council is expected to consider the site plan during its meeting Monday night, Aug. 19.
