Spillville’s annual community Fourth of July celebration has been cancelled due to the corona virus pandemic.
“After much deliberation, we’ve decided it’s best at this point to cancel, considering what’s happening in the state of Iowa,” Spillville Mayor Mike Klimesh said. “2021 will be bigger and better.”
The day-long celebration included activities, food and music, and culminated with the largest Fourth of July fireworks display in Northeast Iowa.
“We feel for public safety concerns and to keep us moving forward in getting Iowa back on track and get us through the corona virus, it’s important for us to do our part and postpone until next year,” Klimesh said.
The mayor added he’s hopeful the Inwood Ballroom’s planned 100th anniversary celebration will take place in September.
