The Winneshiek County Board of Supervisors approved $16,800 in funding allocations Monday due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The supervisors approved $4,000 for each of the three food pantries in Winneshiek County and $4,800 to Winneshiek County Development and Tourism to support coordination of the new Decorah and Winneshiek County Mutual Aid Network.
“County citizens face an infectious agent and uncertainty,” said Board of Supervisors Vice Chair Dean Thompson.
“Our lives -- work, school, business, family, normal social interactions -- have already changed. We are strong and resilient, but there is need for assistance while we push together through coming days.
“The supervisors approved new or additional funding for three county food pantries to help citizens who find themselves food insecure and also funded a spontaneously formed organization for mutual aid being administered by Winneshiek County Development and Tourism. These are things that could be done by county government at this time in the health emergency.”
