Winneshiek Medical Center will present the proposed fiscal year 2014 budget at a public hearing Wednesday, March 13, at 4:30 p.m. prior to the regular Board meeting.

The proposed operating budget projects an operating gain of $1,539,252 or 3 percent operating margin.

"It is important that Winneshiek Medical Center meets this margin to continue the level of care patients and community members expect, such as the availability of diagnostic testing, a 24/7 emergency department, surgical facilities and OB services," said Lynn Luloff, WMC chief financial officer.

Under the proposed budget, the property tax rate remains the same that it's been since 1993 - 44 cents per $1,000 of property value.

The proposed capital budget of $3.3 million includes requests that fall into seven categories: information technology, medical, engineering, building/clinic expansion planning, other construction, non-medical and contingency. The primary source of funding for capital expenditures will be cash generated from operations; no new debt is planned for these purchases.
