City Clerk Wanda Hemesath is clarifying the raises union employees will be receiving following a report at last week’s Decorah City Council meeting that they would be receiving 6 percent increases.
“In reviewing the information on the cost of living adjustment (COLA) and step increases for union covered employees I discovered an error in calculating the percentage. Rather than 6 percent average increase it is just over an average of 4 percent,” Hemesath said.
City of Decorah union covered employees will receive a 2.2 percent COLA increase effective July 1, according to Hemesath.
“Upon their anniversary date any employee not at the top step of their pay scale will receive a step increase per the union contract. The average increase for any one employee is 4 percent. Currently, 14 union covered employees remain eligible for the step increase upon their anniversary date,” she said.
