County, city and IISC to celebrate community projects Tuesday
Monday, May 4, 2015 1:58 PM
Winneshiek County, Winneshiek County Conservation, city of Decorah and the University of Iowa’s Iowa Initiative for Sustainable Communities (IISC) invite the public to attend a celebration highlighting sustainability projects completed over the last academic year.
Over the last two semesters, University of Iowa students and faculty have teamed up with community partners in Decorah and Winneshiek County to work on 11 projects, ranging from stormwater management planning for the City of Decorah to multiple studies on the impact of potential frac sand mining in Winneshiek County.
The celebration is scheduled from 3 - 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 5, at Valders Hall of Science, room 206, on the Luther College campus. The public is invited to attend at their convenience during that time.
Programming begins at 3 p.m. with opening remarks given by representatives from Winneshiek County and the University of Iowa. Presentations start at 3:15 p.m., with two projects focused on the Neste Valley Recreation Area and a third project on stormwater management planning and financing for Decorah. A short break will occur from 4:45 – 5:30, when attendees will be able to view posters in the lobby of Valders Hall of Science and enjoy refreshments. At 5:30 p.m., there will be an introduction to the frac-sand mining project presentations. There are four back-to-back presentations on frac-sand mining studies from 5:40 - 7 p.m., with a one-hour question-and-answer session from 7 - 8 p.m.
Posters for each project will be on display from 2 - 8:30 p.m. in the lobby of 206 Valders Hall of Science.
