A Decorah woman fell asleep while driving on Water Street Monday afternoon and her vehicle knocked down a traffic signal pole on the sidewalk.
According to Decorah Police, Amber Snow, 29, said she had left work and believes she fell asleep at the wheel while driving on Water Street at about 4:40 p.m. Barbara Bohach, 60, Fort Atkinson, said she was stopped at the red light eastbound at Water Street and State Street behind another vehicle when she saw Snow pass the vehicle in front of her on westbound Water Street. Snow then drove onto the sidewalk hitting the traffic signal pole and knocked it down. The pole struck Bohach’s vehicle causing minor damage.
According to Police, Snow does not remember the crash and was only alerted to it when she was awakened by a bystander.
There was $5,000 in damage to Snow’s 2002 Buick, $200 in damage to Bohach’s 2001 Buick and $5,800 in damage to the traffic light pole owned by the city of Decorah.
Snow was charged with failure to maintain control.
