John Anderson, who has been serving as Decorah’s assistant city attorney since December of 2014, was officially appointed city attorney by the Decorah City Council Monday night.
Rick Zahasky, who has served as city attorney for more than 40 years, recently informed city officials of his intent to step down from his full-time duties. He said he would continue to serve as an assistant or as a resource as needed.
Anderson is a partner at the Anderson, Wilmarth, Van Der Maaten, Belay, Fretheim, Gipp, Lynch & Zahasky Law Office in Decorah.
A Decorah native, Anderson received his bachelor’s degree from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1998 and his law degree from Loyola University of Chicago in 2005.
Prior to joining the Anderson Law Office, Anderson served on Active Duty with the U.S. Army Reserve and practiced law in Chicago.
