The Decorah Police Department is encouraging all businesses to be on the lookout for counterfeit bills that could be circulating throughout the county.
On Tuesday, a counterfeit $20 bill was used at a local business. The employee checked the suspicious bill with a pen that detects fake currency that indicated it was not a real bill.
According to the Police Department, the $20 bill is related to a Fayette County Sheriff’s Office investigation into counterfeit money.
The Police Department is encouraging businesses to report any counterfeit bills and turn them over to law enforcement so they can be documented for a follow-up investigation.
