The Luther College Varsity Band and the Wind and Percussion Ensemble will perform a concert at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, in the Main Hall of the Center for Faith and Life on the Luther campus.

Jon Ailabouni, Luther class of 2010 and adjunct faculty in music, directs the Varsity Band and Joan deAlbuquerque, Luther director of bands and associate professor of music, directs the Wind and Percussion Ensemble.

The Varsity Band will perform "A Festival Prelude" by Alfred Reed, "Poetic Intermezzo" by James Barnes, "Cajun Folk Songs" by Frank Ticheli, "Army of the Nile" by Kenneth Alford, "The Peanut Vendor" by Moises Simons and "Psalm 46" by John Zdechik.

Varsity Band includes about 100 students and appears at a variety of events through out the year including Chapel services, a family weekend performance, a Dorian Band Festival performance as well as its own formal concert each semester.

The Wind and Percussion Ensemble will perform "Satiric Dances" by Norman Dello Joio, "A Dream of Coming Home" by John Carnahan and "Exultate" by Samuel Hazo. The ensemble will aslo perform "Enchanted Spaces" by Samuel Hazo. This piece was commissioned by Decorah High School and will be guest conducted by Jim Fritz, director of bands at Decorah High School. Fritz has been teaching in Decorah for 30 years and is retiring this year.
