Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) will hold spring commencement for Calmar campus graduates Thursday May 15, at 7 p.m. at Decorah High School.
The graduation includes Fall 2013, Spring 2014 and Summer 2014 graduates. Both events are free and open to the public.
At the Calmar campus, 190 graduates are participating in the ceremony. NICC Trustee Kathy Gunderson, of Postville, will give the welcome address. Iowa Representative Roger Thomas will give the keynote address.
Rep. Thomas serves in the Iowa House and represents District 55, an area that covers portions of Clayton, Fayette and Winneshiek counties. He is a business consultant and contributes his leadership to the Economic Growth, Natural Resources, Veterans Affairs and Ways and Means committees in Des Moines. He has served as an NICC trustee and is a member of the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety (NECAS) advisory board. Rep. Thomas is in his 8th term and plans to retire from the Iowa House at the conclusion of his current term.
Kristina Ryan, Calmar campus iMPACT president, will deliver the student address.
She is graduating with a degree from the Massage Therapy program and received an NICC Foundation Scholarship this year for her academic achievements and leadership. Ryan became a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society in fall 2013 and was named to the Who’s Who in American Junior Colleges listing in 2014. After graduating from NICC, she will enroll at Western Technical College in LaCrosse, Wis., to earn a physical therapy assistant degree. She lives in Decorah.
