A proclamation signed by Governor Kim Reynolds March 19 suspends penalties and interest on unpaid property taxes through the end of the proclamation, which expires April 16.
The second half of county property taxes are due March 1, but penalties and interest were never imposed until April 1, according to Winneshiek County Treasurer Brenda Kreitzer.
As a result of the governor’s proclamation, that grace period has been extended to April 16.
“If the property owners’ first half property taxes that were due last September, 2019, are delinquent, the imposed penalty and interest from that time is still imposed but no April penalty or interest will be added on until after April 16, 2020, if taxes are still unpaid,” Kreitzer said.
