A Mabel, Minn. man was charged with third-offense operating while intoxicated after a Sunday accident at about 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of 360th Street and North Winn Road.
The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Department, Decorah Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Decorah Fire Department, Winneshiek Medical Center ambulances and Winneshiek County First Responders all responded to the scene.
According to the Sheriff’s Department, James Flynn, 51, Decorah, was driving a pickup truck that was towing a loaded equipment trailer southbound on North Winn Road as Dale Donahue, 62, Mabel, Minn. was eastbound on 360th Street. The department reported Donahue ran the stop sign and his vehicle collided with Flynn’s truck and trailer.
The Flynn truck and trailer jackknifed and entered the west ditch before the truck rolled onto its top. Flynn and his passenger, Deb Flynn, 51, Decorah, and Glen Folstad, 48, Decorah, were assisted out of the truck by Decorah Fire Department and ambulance personnel at the scene.
The Flynns, who were both wearing their seatbelts, were checked by medical personnel and released at the scene. Folstad had not been wearing a seatbelt in the back of the extended cab truck and was transported by ambulance to Winneshiek Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.
Donahue was treated at the scene by medical personnel and charged with third-offense operating while intoxicated, not having a valid drivers license, a stop sign violation and not having proof of insurance.
Donahue also has an active arrest warrant from the Allamakee County Sheriff’s Department.
