Alice Rosalie (McDermott) Maeder, 82, of Decorah, and formerly of Darlington, Wis., died Monday, June 16, 2014, at Aase Hauge Home in Decorah. Funeral services are at 11:30 am Wednesday, June 25, at Steil Camacho Funeral Home, 206 E. Harriet Street, Darlington, Wis., with Cristina Camacho, CFSP as celebrant.  Burial will follow at Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service, at the funeral home.    
Alice was born Aug. 29, 1931, to Alvina  (Heying) and John McDermott of Truman, Wis. Alice grew up with her three sisters, Virginia, Bernadette (Bernie), Jean and two brothers, Paul and Joe, on a dairy farm in Truman. Alice graduated from Darlington High School in 1949. In 1956, Alice married John  H. Maeder and together they had two daughters, Carol and Joanne.  Alice worked at the Bell Telephone Company as an operator for 17 years and had fond memories of the “telephone girls” which included her sister Virginia.  Alice worked at the Ben Franklin store in Darlington until it closed and at Borg Instruments and Ranch House Lanes for a number of years before her final job as a dietary aide at the Lafayette County Manor.  In 2008, Alice moved from Darlington, Wis. to Decorah, to live near her daughter Carol; and she most recently resided at Aase Haugen Homes. 
Alice is survived by her two daughters, Carol (Stu) Johnston (Decorah) and Joanne Halverson (Monroe, Wis.); two granddaughters, Katie (Darren) Vick  (Decorah, ) and Bobbi Brown (Clevurne, Texas); two sisters, Bernadette “Bernie” Boyle (Madison, Wis.), Jean Gille (Darlington, Wis.); her brother: Paul  (Marsha) McDermott; sister-in-law: Ena Mae (Al) Schuetz (Monroe, Wis.); many nieces, nephews, other relatives,and friends. 
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Maeder (1992); her parents, John B. McDermott  (1968) and Alivina (Heying) McDermott (2007); her brother,  Joe McDermott (1972); her sister,  Virginia Schunk (2010); father-in-law, Herman Maeder (1963); mother-in-law, Julia  (Mueller) Maeder (2000); and one sister-in-law, Gertrude (Maeder) Lieby (2011).
The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Aase Haugen Homes in Decorah, IA for the wonderful care and support given to Alice over the last few years.
