Karen Skrypek, 76, of Calmar, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2019, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minn. Mass of Christian Burial was at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 12, at the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar, with Rev. Robert Gross presiding. Visitation is after 10 a.m. Monday at St. Aloysius. Lectors were Dane Kelsey and Rachel Bower. Organist was Jeanette Dietzenbach. St. Aloysius Choir sang “Amazing Grace,” “Shall We Gather At The River,” “Alleluia, Sing to Jesus,” “One Bread One Body” and “On Eagles’ Wings.” Offertory gift bearers were Karen’s children. Arrangements were handled by Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Calmar.

Karen was born Jan. 5, 1943, in Spillville, to Raymond and Magdalen (Bullerman) Numedahl. She was raised on the family farm in Calmar, attended St Aloysius Catholic School and graduated from South Winneshiek High School. She attended business school in Omaha, Neb. Karen met the love of her life in New York City, Paul Skrypek. They married at St Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar June 1, 1963. After they married, they lived in New York City, then moved to Wilkes-Barre, Pa., and Williamsport, Pa. After retiring from Liberty Mutual, they moved to Outer Banks, N.C., before ultimately finding their way back to Calmar. She loved being called Grandma and there was nothing she wouldn’t do for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Karen was actively involved in her community and volunteered at RSVP, The Depot, was an income tax ?ling assistant and was active at St. Aloysius Church. She loved being with her family, loved baking, loved her ?owers and had a love of being at the beach. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, as she was always willing to lend a helping hand and bake something for the occasion.

Karen is survived by her husband, Paul; their children: Kathleen (Troy) Kelsey, Jay (Laura Ru?n) Skrypek, Kirstie (Jim) Bower; grandchildren: Dane (Amanda), Ryan (Sarah), Johnny, Rachel, Hailey, Emily, Lindsey, Brittany; and three great-grandchildren: Brielle, Kyla and Eliza; Karen’s siblings: Cheryl Hageman, Robert (Joyce) Numedahl and Randall Numedahl; sister-in law, Marleen Numedahl; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Karen was proceeded in death by her parents; brother, Ronald Numedahl; brother-in law, Dale Hagemen.
